By 1930 the Cloche hat of the twenties had evolved into the Coal Scuttle shape. The deep scoop brim over one ear gives the hat its name.
Worn higher on the head and with a shallow front brim, the wearers face is more visible. The larger summer styles were often made of straw plait.
Hats of the early 1930s were mostly modest in size and usually worn at a tilt.
