At this time of austerity when clothing had to be practical and sensible; saucy hats were, along with shoulder pads, a fashion anomaly.
Usually, but not always, these rather silly hats only appear in wedding photographs.
Worn perched precariously at a tilt on top of the head, wartime hats appear far too small for the wearer.
I can only surmise they were worn as an anidote to the otherwise dull, dreary wartime lifestyle.
