Occupational Portraits  • Craftsmen

Self-explanatory studio portraits of craftsmen.
Stonemason These were the days of seven year long apprenticeships.
The young baker on the right will have started his; the stonemason on the left will have completed his.
Both have gone to the photographer's studio in their work clothes with the tools and produce of their craft. These photographs illustrate the pride a man had in his trade or following. Unless we know or have some idea who they are, they may not help the family historian.
However as illustrations of social history we could not wish for better.
