Thirties Keep-Fit Movement
The Women's League of Health and Beauty had 160,000 members.
The Inter-war years saw an increased interest in keep-fit and sport activities.
These years saw a dramatic growth in both outdoor and indoor sports participation.
Family snapshots from this time often show beach and group activities such as swimming, camping, cycling, walking and rambling.
By the Thirties this could involve large organized groups of adults, some of whom gave displays.
The increased availability of leisure time must of course have played a part in this.
This trend was not confined to Britain but found worldwide.
