1914-18 • Crossed Ribbon-Tie

Fashion for girls from about 1914 to 1920
The crossed ribbon-tie either in velvet like this one or more usually satin, was worn round the neck without a knot or bow.
Worn contemporary with the Big Hair Bow but seldom together; it seems adopted by girls in their late teens who may have considered the Big Bow too juvenile.
Usually held in place on a blouse by a brooch or Sweetheart brooch at the crossover point.
