The Women's Legion was one of the first of the voluntary Women's services. It was founded by the influential Lady Londonderry.

Divided into Canteen, Ambulance and Cookery sections the Women's Legion was an important training ground for the later Official Women's services.

In group photographs of the later WAAC some of the Controllers & Administrators WAAC name for Officer and Forewomen WAAC name for NCO can be seen with Women's Legion badges worn as a brooch.
