There are as many styles of Sweetheart brooches as there are military badges. Most are in fact adapted from either a Cap Badge, Collar Badge or Shoulder Title from the appropriate regiment.
Commercial brooches are much smaller and for our purposes difficult to see in a photograph.Occasionally you will see just a General Service button which tells us nothing.
Commonly worn at the top of the blouse as a "modesty" brooch they can often be overlooked when examining a photograph. Many times I have been asked to identify the Regiment of soldier when he has no cap badge or other insignia on show. Turn the magnifying glass onto his wife or daughter in the same photograph and you may find a sweetheart brooch.
