Food control
A fancy dress outfit was often an excuse to have a photograph taken.Sadly they usually tell us little, except perhaps how desperate our forebearers were for entertainment.
Normally I do not have a kind word to say about fancy dress photographs.

"Food Control" the subject of this costume was introduced in late spring 1918.The war ended in November 1918.
Food control (another phrase for food rationing) only existed for six months which dates this photograph nicely.
Food rationing was a totally new concept to the British and was to play a vital role in the 1939-45 war.
